No New Posts The Sorting Ceremony

Before you can begin your journey in the magical world of Harry Potter, you must first sit yourself down on the unsteady stool and be sorted in to one of the four houses. An old, frayed, magical and rather dirty hat will be placed on your head. The Sorting Hat speaks inside with a small, quiet voice to the wearer and it can read thoughts and respond to them. When not sorting students, the Sorting Hat rests on its stool in Dumbledore's office.

No New Posts Hogsmeade

"Hogsmeade looked like a Christmas card; the little thatched cottages and shops were all covered in a layer of crisp snow; there were holly wreaths on the doors and strings of enchanted candles hanging in the trees."

Hogsmeade Village, or simply Hogsmeade is the only all-Wizarding village in Britain. Hogsmeade is located at the northwest of Hogwarts Castle. Students may sometimes come on weekend trips, but only third year students and above with guardian permission are allowed to visit. Mainly, students frequent the High Street in the Village which contains the named specialty shops and pubs in the series such as Zonko's Joke Shop and Honeydukes. Otherwise, they wander on to observe the infamous Shrieking Shack.

Hogsmeade is a picturesque little village of thatched cottages and shops, with enchanted candles hanging in the trees during the holidays. It is also the location of the train station used by the Hogwarts Express.

"Harry wished he had eight more eyes.... There were shops selling robes, shops selling telescopes and strange silver instruments Harry had never seen before, windows stacked with barrels of bat spleens and eels' eyes, tottering piles of spell books, quills, and rolls of parchment, potion bottles, globes of the moon...."

Diagon Alley is a wizarding street and shopping area located in London, England behind a pub called the Leaky Cauldron. Inside the alley is an assortment of restaurants, shops, and other sights. All items on the Hogwarts Supply list can be bought at Diagon Alley. The alley is completely hidden from the Muggle world which is right outside of its boundaries.

No New Posts The Burrow

"This is the best house I've ever been in."

The Burrow is the family home of the Weasley family Ottery, St. Catchpole, Devon, England. It is a thoroughly magical dwelling that became a second home to Harry Potter. It is so well hidden that Molly Weasley doubts that the postman even knows it exists. Nestled amongst rolling hills and fertile meadows, other wizarding families in the area include the Diggorys, the Lovegoods and the the Fawcetts. Once have been an old stone pigpen, which has had several crooked stories attached to it. Four or five chimneys dot the roof of the house, and the entire building is most likely held up by magic due to its crazy construction.

No New Posts The Ministry Of Magic

The headquarters of the Ministry of Magic is located in the heart of London. A visitor to the Ministry of Magic comes to a broken-down red telephone box located on a dingy street which has several shabby offices, a pub, and a wall covered with graffiti. When the telephone in the box is dialed (62442, the word M-A-G-I-C), the welcome witch's voice answers, not from the phone but from the air as if the person is standing right there. Visitors must state their business, upon which a silver badge pops out with the visitor's name and purpose of visit. Then the telephone box drops down like a lift for about one minute, after which the visitor is in the Atrium.

St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries is reached via Purge and Dowse, Ltd. in Muggle London. Purge and Dowse, Ltd. is an red-brick, old-fashioned department store that has “Closed for Refurbishment” signs hanging on its doors. One speaks to the ugly dummy in the front window, who will nod its assent and beckon you to enter. In a process very similar to how one gets onto Platform 9 and 3/4, one walks into the window. The Healers at St. Mungo's are trained and equipped to treat a wide variety of magic-related illnesses and injuries.

No New Posts Godric's Hollow

Godric's Hollow is a village in the West Country of England. It is a small community, which centers on a village square with only a church, a post office, a pub, and a few retail shops. The residential streets are lined with quaint cottages. According to A History of Magic, the graveyard was rumoured to be haunted.

Godric's Hollow is one of the places where magical families have come to live alongside Muggles. Over the centuries, it has been home to many wizards and witches of note, including Godric Gryffindor, who was born there. On October 31, 1981, James and Lily Potter were murdered by Lord Voldemort in their home at Godric's Hollow, at which time Voldemort lost his powers and physical form when he tried to kill the couple's infant son, Harry, due to Lily's sacrifice. James and Lily's bodies were laid to rest in the Godric's Hollow graveyard.

No New Posts Spinner's End

Spinner's End is a street, on which sits a house that is the summer home of Severus Snape. It is stated to be one of several streets of identical brick, presumably terraced, houses. It is near a dirty river, the bank of which is strewn with litter. A mill (presumably a woollen or cotton mill) with a tall chimney is close by. This rather bleak background suggests it is located within a run-down industrial area, possibly in northern England. It is revealed to be near Lily Potter's childhood home.

No New Posts Azkaban

"They don't need walls and water to keep the prisoners in, not when they're trapped inside their own heads, incapable of a single cheerful thought. Most go mad within weeks."

Azkaban is a wizarding prison located on an island in the middle of the North Sea. Presumably, this prison is only used by magical Britain, as there are other wizarding prisons elsewhere such as Nurmengard. Using certain charms, the prison is hidden from the muggle world, and is unplottable. It is widely regarded as a horrible place, given that its guards, Dementors, cause great suffering to those in their proximity. Most prisoners eventually go insane, and slowly die away.

The home of the Malfoys, located in Wiltshire, England. Malfoy Manor is a "handsome manor house" surrounded by elaborate gardens, including a fountain and roving white peacocks, and enclosed by wrought-iron gates that permit select individuals to pass through them as if they were smoke. The interior is described as "sumptuously decorated", and includes ornate furniture, marble fireplaces, and gilt mirrors. It has a large entrance hallway with portraits lining the walls and a stone floor mostly covered by a magnificent carpet.

According to Draco Malfoy, the family's collection of Dark artifacts were hidden below ground level in this room so as to prevent any from being seized during Ministry raids. The function of this room changed to that of a holding cell for the aforementioned prisoners. This room is completely escape-proof and has no light. It has nothing in it except a water jug and a food bowl.

12 Grimmauld Place is the ancestral home of the Black family. It is located in London, in a Muggle neighbourhood, and the location is protected by a Fidelius Charm. As the house is invisible to the neighbourhood residents, the local Muggles have long since accepted the mistake in numbering which landed number 13 next to number 11.

In 1995, the home became the headquarters for the Order of the Phoenix, with consent of Sirius Black, with Albus Dumbledore becoming Secret-Keeper.
