Character Name: Nuriko Elswyth
Nickname: Nuri, ‘Riko
Age: 21
Date of Birth: Oct. 9th, 1975
Play By: Aya Ueto
Blood Type: Pure blood
Wand: Yew, ten inches, black Areion wing feather
Patronus: A winged horse
Affiliation: Order of the Phoenix
Appearance: About five-foot, with an extension of two inches, Nuriko is built along rather stocky lines, weighing around 123 pounds. While certainly not bulging; her muscle mass is well defined, thanks to her playing quidditch as a beater and the effort she put into working in her family's stables.
Nuriko's hair is usually about an inch and a half long and rather spiky. She often changes it according to her mood, with her metamorphagus abilities. Her eyes are a warm brown(naturally, but they rarely appear that way) and almond shaped. A spunky personality, Nuriko seems to wear almost everything once, coming up with bizarre outfit ideas. For the most part, however, she just goes casual.
Belongings: An eagle owl, her dog Red and seven Areion are among those pets that personally belong to her, but the Areion are not exactly pets. Her store, the stock and animals therein, various personal items. Her beloved Nimbus 3000 Windrider and her Quidditch equipment.
Personality: Never accused of being serious, Nuriko is a big one for playing jokes, telling jokes and just plain being herself. This light-hearted exterior hides a core of steel. She's protective of her friends and, and views herself as kind of a bigger sister to many. She has a flair for bright colours like orange and yellow.
Nuriko also wears her heart on her sleeve, as it were. Not just that she tends to change according to her moods and emotions, but she will leave you with NO doubt as to how she feels. If you annoy her, she’ll tell you bluntly. Although she controls her metamorphagus abilities very well, she has a bit (actually more than a bit), of a temper, and getting her mad is easy to do. But her anger blows over as quickly as the rest of her emotions, she rarely focuses on more than one thing for too long, causing many to mark her as flighty and irresponsible.
Occupation: Shopkeeper/Owner of Riko’s Menagerie
Magical Skills: Metamorphagus
School Attended:
Tennessee Magical Academy
History: Born in Tampa, Florida, Nuriko was a surprise baby. And, as her parents were quick to decide, the only baby they would be having. Their new child was a handful from the get-go, and with her father working two jobs and her mother working part-time as a book critic and journalist, there just was no time for another child.
As a metamorphagus and a hyper young child with a short attention span, Nuri really did give her parents a race for their money… or at the least their sanity. Things slowed down as she grew older and they moved out of the city. She learned, as any child must, the proper ways to do things (no tantrums, please and thank you, running in circles about the house is not acceptable, etc.) and these aided her as she grew up and learned how to control her abilities.
When she was three, the small family moved from Tampa to a fifty-four acreage outside Waynesboro, Tennessee. They split the property in half. One half was surrounded by Muggle repelling charms. They raised Areions there, a sleek winged horse native to the middle east. Their bloodlines are evident in the speed, stamina and intelligence of the Arabian breed. On the other half of the property they raised Arabians and ran a small riding stable.
When she turned four she got her first broom from her uncle, a Quidditch star for the Tennessee Thestrals. He was her mothers youngest brother and her idol. It was because of her uncle that she discovered how much she enjoyed Quidditch, and he swiftly became her favorite uncle.
Nuriko received an elementary education in magic from her parents and went to Muggle school, starting with kindergarten and going through sixth grade, where she learned to read, write and do arithmetic. She also received a basic education in science.
The Tennessee Magical Academy is a six year school with three different dorms, the equivalent of Hogwarts houses. Entering the school a month before her twelfth birthday, Nuriko was for the first time completely immersed in magical learning, and she loved it. The energetic teenager was the bane of many a teacher, and yet she was a bit of a teacher's pet. She loved to learn, she loved the school, and yet she broke the rules without consideration. A model student most comfortable in the truant's corner.
Nuriko graduated with honors in the spring of 1994. She worked on her family's farm for six months before moving to England for a job offer. The job didn't work out, and she ended up in Hogsmeade with a dog and a flying horse and nowhere to go. Outside of town lay an old three-story house. Nuriko loved it, and as she watched her dog play in the long grass, she got an idea. She could apply her knowledge of animals and their care and how to run a business. She wouldn't have to leave the country she had come to love.
Thus was born Riko's Menagerie. With a loan from Gringotts, she bought the place, fixed it up, and supplied the first set of inventory items: animals, living areas for the smaller animals, books, food, ect. It's now nearing the second anniversary of the store.
Voldemort: She’s a foreigner, and in America they’ve never heard of Voldemort. She’s heard he’s the ‘worst thing to happen to the wizarding world’ and that he’s the ‘most powerful wizard in centuries’ but she doesn’t see it. Outside of the UK, she’d never heard of ‘You-Know-Who.’ She had to ask the witch who whispered to her who she was referring to. She calls him Voldemort, not You-Know-Who or He-Who-Should-Not-Be-Named. Even so, she’s seen and heard of the latest destructive binges he’s been on, and when the opportunity came, she allowed the Order to recruit her.
RPG Sample: Halloween was certainly her favorite holiday, Nuriko mused as she checked on the animals for the last time. Certain that they were happy and secure, she snapped a padlock on Gateway’s cage and turned out the lights. Locking the door and tapping it and the three jack-o’-lanterns on her porch with her wand, she set the barrier and alarm spells in motion. She had already done the stables. It was a sad fact, some people held that Halloween meant they had to play cruel pranks, and she didn’t want to take the chance.
Looking up at the sky, she saw that it was a clear, cool night with little breeze. Perfect for flying. She straddled her Nimbus, adjusting her long skirt before kicking off. Rising smoothly into the air, she headed straight for the castle, which was lighting up the night. Wind whipped through the short hair of the quidditch-crazed shopkeeper, and she grinned, she’d done little broom flying since her graduation. Arriving at the castle, she descended and stepped off her broom, pulling her skirt down. She paused a moment to check her brightly colored and feathered red and blue spikes before surrendering her broom to a pumpkin-wearing house elf and following her inside. Once in the entrance hall, she left her guide with thanks and entered the Great Hall.
Stopping just inside, Nuriko looked about with a grin. The decorations this year were spookily awesome! Her foot tapped and she swayed a little in time to the tune as brightly colored wings sprouted from her bare shoulder blades. With her flowing skirted red dress, bright hair and wings, she now assembled nothing more or less than a vivid red and blue parrot. Her wing’s growth stopped as the song ended, and she headed off with a joyful skip for the pumpkin juice and cookies.
