Hermione Granger couldn't easily be spotted as she sat surrounded by books that Monday evening. Having her latest piece of homework from Ancient Runes, it was always a challenging subject for her. People were so quick to assume that she was clever, but they simply didn't understand how much she worked in order to be right all the time.
To be wrong would be a failure, and this 5th year Gryffindor was determined to be anything but that. Underneath her know-it-all status were deep insecurities and doubts, and to stop herself from going mad, this was her only escapism. Falling in to a book would allow her to leave the rest of the world behind, if not only for a little while.
Her brow furrowed, Hermione delved deeper in to the books, running her finger down the page as she tried to find the right fact for her essay.
"Aha!" She exclaimed at last, tapping it in triumph before quickly jotting down the passage. It had been a small accomplishment, but it gave her a strange sense of satisfaction.

(Mind if I jump in?)
Harry walked into the library, hoping for some alone time. He loved hanging out with his friends but he needed some time to himself today. Some time dedicated to try to block the summer's events. He tried not to think about how the Minister deliberately tried to make him a criminal. Or how he thought he was a goner for sure during his hearing. Suddenly, his eyes wandered over to certain bushy-haired witch.
He grinned as he saw one of his best friends in the library. Good old Hermione, the day she wasn't studying was a day to behold! He snuck up behind her and pulled up a chair next to her. "So, what are you looking now? You couldn't possibly have found something to do already!"

((Of course not! ;D))
"Harry!" Hermione gasped, jumping and sending her ink bottle flying. "You startled me!" She had been so immersed in her studies that she had almost forgotten her whereabouts. Her heart still beating abnormally fast, she looked up to find Harry sat down beside her. A little frown appearing on her face as she stared down now ink-stained parchment, Hermione quickly flicked her wand to clear up the mess.
"Ancient Runes," she replied promptly, picking up her quill again and returning to run her fingers along the many books, "It's our first piece of homework, and it is rather challenging." Glancing around, Hermione leaned forward and lowered her voice as she cast her brown eyes on her friend. "Speaking of which, shouldn't you and Ron get started on some homework? You know this is going to be our toughest year yet - you have to prepared in time for out OWLs! Not to mention everything else that's been going on."

Harry did his very best to supress a groan. School had barely started yet she was still nagging them about homework! He didn't even know of any homework that they'd gotten! Anyway, he also seriously didn't want to be reminded in the slightest of what was going on. In reponse to Hermione, he grunted. then grinned. She actually didn't seem unfazed after this summer! That was pretty amusing. "Hermone," he grinned, "we just got back. OWLs aren't going to be hectic until later on anyway!
But he really did have to admire how much Hermione studied. She was definitely top in their class and he had to admit that he and Ron probably wouldn't have gotten as far as they had without her help. "So, what homework do we have anyway?"

Hermione heard Harry's disgruntled moan but chose to ignore it as she lent back to her previous position and continued to concentrate on her work. "It's never too early to begin, Harry. You'll think differently when exam time is actually here," she replied vaguely but really knowing that her warnings were falling on deaf ears.
Perhaps if she did not have these doubts, these frustrations, worries, insecurities, she would not be as immersed in her books. But then education was important, it determined her direction in life, her future career. Was it bad to keep pressuring them? Maybe she should just back off a little? No longer as naive as she was, Hermione was well aware that her nagging annoyed her two friends but she only had their best interests at heart after all.
After a few moments of silence, Hermione lifted her gaze to Harry and a smile appeared on her face. "You're really interested?" She asked, brightening before she raised an eyebrow. "Do you not remember Professor Snape's essay?"

(I hope you don't mind a teacher's presence)
It was a dark and cold Monday evening, the sound of rain splattering against the ancient walls of the castle occasionally punctured by a resonating peel of thunder. For the most part the antique windows succeeded in holding back the deluge; however the relentless downpour had managed to find a weak spot at the top of one panel, allowing a small trickle of water to drip down onto the pages of the book Dugan was examining. The teacher cursed under his breath, shaking the book fiercely for a moment in an attempt to dislodge the errant drop.
“I have all I need anyway,” he stated finally after a moment or two, slamming the book closed roughly (an action that prompted a cry of pain from the tome itself) and quickly replacing it on the shelf beside him. The problem with a school like Hogwarts was that none of the books, even those in the restricted section, went into detail on the less respectable areas of magic, thus making it very hard for those attempting to do perfectly innocent research of their own on the subject. Scooping up the notes he’d copied down, Dugan tucked the parchment away into an inside pocket of his robe and swept out of the restricted section.
As Professor Tiernan emerged into the library proper his eyes fell upon two students working at a nearby table. He vaguely recalled seeing the girl working at the same table when he came in, however it was the boy who caught his interest; after all, the face of Harry Potter was known to everyone in the Wizarding world. If he remembered it rightly they’d be in his class tomorrow, which alone was enough to promise an interesting lesson.

(Ooh I think I need to join the partay!)
"Why? Tell me WHY? I have such a stupid skrewt faced prick for a brother!"[/b] Grumbling loudly, his two friends probably heard him coming even before his freckled faced appeared around the corner of a large bookcase. "Harry, Hermione, your both lucky you don't have any stupid siblings to deal with"[/b] He growled matter of factly before slamming down his guide to advanced potion making hard onto the desk and dropping down heavily into a vacant chair on the opposite side of the table to Hermione.
Ron wasn't the most enthusiastic of students so the mere fact that he was now in the library with them both meant he had something to complain about and there was a 10 to one guarantee it included Percy.
The books tattered, hardback cover lay half open thanks to the mess of quills and parchment he'd been storing inside it whilst he'd made his way to the dreaded library and he pulled an ink pot out of the pocket of his jeans, which had his Mother seen, no doubt would have given her a heart attack with the threat of staining it presented, before also dropping it onto the table with a sharp chink noise and leaning forwards, his hands palms down on the smooth mahogany wood of the table.
"Hermione you have a giant brain, know any jinxes to turn a stupid idiot into a flobberworm...fat lot of good he does as a wizard anyway!"[/b] Staring at her darkly, his face a mask of seriousness, he waited for an answer.

Before Harry had had a chance to reply, Hermione's attention was drawn to the loud grumbles of a rather familiar red-head. She grinned a little as he flung himself down in front of them, slamming his book on to the table with a bang. Her expression soon changed however as she realised what a disturbance he was creating in the quiet room.
"Shh Ron, keep it down! You know what will happen if you keep making noise - we'll get thrown out!" She hissed, hastily glancing over her shoulder to make sure there were no teachers walking over. Turning her attention back to the boys, she added sympathetically, "Oh no, what's happened now? I'm sure it's not that bad."
Although Hermione was perfectly content with being an only child, she often thought how wonderful it would be to have someone around her own age, be it a little sister or brother, in the family. But then, perhaps having as many siblings as Ron did, it was little wonder why he became annoyed - especially with the likes of Fred and George.
As she scanned the room once more, Hermione's eyes fell on a figure that had just left the restricted section. "I don't know, Ron, but I'm sure Professor Tieran will know." She nodded towards the door to make the other two look round. He was the newest Professor at Hogwarts, having to take the place of Professor Binns who had finally realised he was dead and as Dumbledore had put it, "Taken a very long vacation."
"We've got him tomorrow - first thing," she whispered, staring at him furtively. "I wonder what he's like."

Harry may not have responded to Hermione's question but he did frown upon hearing Snape's name. He was Potions Master and hated Harry a lot just because of his father did years ago. He remember his first year at Hogwarts, he hated Snape then too but it wasn't until two years later that it intensified. That was when Snape almost had Sirius killed just for some title and a pathtic grudge! And he was a teacher! In fact, he didn't really think he could ever like Snape.
He was to reply when Ron came in. A grin then started on Harry's face. Ron always complained about his brothers but he probably never meant it. Suddenly, the grin slid off. He had never heard of the twins being mentioned in singular. It only had to mean Percy. That brother had gotten off speaking with the Weasleys once he got a job in the Ministry. "What did he do, Ron?"
He then turned to look at the man who was located in the Forbidden Section. He forgot what his name was but he has taken over as History Of Magic Professor. That wasn't what had made him turn that way. It was Hermione's remark, she usually didn't speak ill of teachers. "What do you mean, Hermione?" He asked.

“What hasn’t happened you mean?”[/b] He grumbled, pulling out a very crumpled looking piece of balled Parchment and chucking it across the table to Hermione. “Give you three guesses who its off…”[/b] Turning to look at Harry Ron replied. “Percy the prick doesn’t want me hanging out with you anymore Harry, great isn’t it? I swear if I ever see him again I’ll punch him so hard it’ll send him flying into the next century!”[/b] Fuming over his brother’s utter lack of spine, Ron almost missed Hermione’s mention of the new professor whom he hadn’t really taken any notice of since he wasn’t in the Muggle Studies class.
“Professor who?”[/b] he voiced loudly, his tone questioning. That was certainly a name you didn’t hear on a regular basis, then again neither were most wizarding names, if you happened to be a Muggle. The issue with Percy temporarily forgotten, Ron looked between Harry and Hermione, not realising the said teacher was coming up behind him as he spoke. “Bit of a weird name that isn’t? Tiernan…reckon he’s foreign?”[/b] he asked, pondering the matter himself for a moment until the sound of footsteps coming to a halt behind him made him jump and he turned around sheepishly.
“Evening Professor…quiet tonight isn’t it…”[/b]
