Next to the fountain, a girl sat with her hair tied back in a tight plait and a poetry book on her lap. The sun attempted to shine through the clouds overhead, giving off just enough heat to make it bearable to be outside.
Carmen softly turned the page of the book and began to read the next poem. It was by a Muggle author, one of her mother's favorite's, despite it's dark nature. The poet? Edgar Allen Poe. Her fingers grazed the top of the page to smooth it, uttering the title slowly, "Annabel Lee…"
She tilted her head to the side as she read through the poem, though a small smile played on her lips. It was beautifully tragic in a way, making her see why her mother liked Poe's work so much. Maybe she should have asked her about him before going off. Or she could write to her mother and thank her for the book and say she loved it. Then perhaps Sarah-Anne Lovine would send her a biography about him.
Upon finishing 'Annabel Lee', Carmen closed the book, looking up at the sky with a small sigh. She wasn't really sure what to do next, and it was Sunday, meaning that she had loads of free time until she actually had to do anything.
"What to do, what to do…" she wondered aloud, brushing some loose hair out of her face and behind her ear.

Hermione was bustling across the busy Court Yard that day, her heavy bag flung over her shoulder as she made her way back from Herbology. It wasn't her favourite lesson but it was extremely interesting and would come in handy in the future. Harry and Ron had gone on ahead while she had asked Professor Sprout a question about their homework - she being the only one to do so of course.
As she passed the fountain, Hermione noticed a fellow Gryffindor who she had seen many times in the common room but had never spoken. She was about to carry on when she noticed the author of the book that the girl was reading.
"Edgar Allen Poe!" Stated Hermione enthusatically, "I've read lots of poems by him - he's very good." She smiled kindly at the girl, not wanting to come across as strange but unable to hold her tongue when she saw someone with an excellent book.

Carmen gave a small jolt as her thoughts were interrupted by the ecstatic voice of another student nearby. Opening her eyes, she saw a bushy-haired girl, and it took her a moment to place her face as one of a fellow Gryffindor. Her name escaped the elder witch, but she was glad that someone knew who she was reading.
She gave a smile and nodded, "Yeah. My mother gave it to me as a farewell gift when she dropped me off at King's Cross. She loves his work. I've just finished 'Annabel Lee' for myself," she said, tapping the book's cover gingerly. "I guess she wanted me to have a little Muggle literature while I was at school," Carmen chuckled a little.
She then held out her hand, stabbing at being polite, "I don't think we've previously met, I'm Carmen. Carmen Lovine." she introduced herself in her usual upbeat manner, her smile turning to a grin.
